Controlled Cooking

Effortlessly create your favorite recipes with Induction's immediate temperature response that adjusts from a powerful boil to a low simmer.

Questions & Reviews

What are the benefits of Induction?

Induction cooking directly heats the pan; heating will only begin when cookware is properly placed on the cooking zones. Fast and efficient - Induction cooking zones heat faster and use less energy. Induction power levels are quick to boil and they are efficient when simmering.

A cooler cooktop - A unique feature of the induction cooking zones is, whether it is turned on or off, the cooking zones remain cooler than radiant type elements. Virtually no wasted heat is produced since the heat begins with the presence of cookware.

Easy cleanups - The cooler cooking zones make cleanup easier. Spills resist sticking or burning so they wipe up easily.

Magnetic detector - The cooking zone has a sensor that automatically detects whether cookware is magnetic. This will reduce accidental “turn-ons.”

Pan size detection - The pan size recognition sensor automatically detects and adapts the induction cooking zones to the pan sizes in use for consistent, more even cooking.

More responsive - Induction cooking zones are more responsive than their electric or gas counterparts because only the pan heats. This type of cooking heats easier and will be just as responsive when reducing to a simmer.

What type of cookware do I use with Induction?

For the best possible surface cooking results, it is recommended to only use high quality heavy gauge cookware on the induction cooking zones. Be sure to follow all the manufacturer’s recommendations when using cookware made for induction cooking. To check if the cookware base material is suitable, use a magnet to test. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the cookware, the material type is correct. The most common induction cookware types available are:

Stainless steel - Generally excellent for induction cooking plus it is durable, easy to clean and resists staining. However, it is important to note that not all stainless steel is magnetic.
Cast iron - Good for induction cooking. Cooks evenly. Do not slide cast iron cookware on cooktop. Cast iron cookware with a rough surface will scratch ceramic cooktop.
Porcelain-enamel coated metals - Heating characteristics will vary depending on quality of base material. Porcelain-enamel coating must be smooth to avoid scratching the ceramic cooktop.

Why does my Induction cooktop make noises when I’m cooking?

Some cookware can hum or buzz when used in induction cooking. The surface controls click as they work to create even cooking temps. Temp changes during preheat and cool-down can make parts of the cooktop expand and contract. Different fans run to cool down different parts of the cooktop, even when it’s off. These sounds are normal.

Can I 'mute' the audible tones on my appliance?

The option to silent audible tones may not be applicable on all models so you want to check your Owner’s Manual. For applicable models - When selecting a function on your display, an audible tone is heard each time a key is pressed. If you desire, the display can be programmed for silent operation. To set the controls for silent operation:

Press and hold Start Time for 6 seconds. The display will beep once and then you can release the key.
The controls are now set for silent operation.
To return your audible tones to normal operation:
Press and hold Start Time again for 6 seconds until the display beeps once and then you release the key.
The controls are now set for audible operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Induction works fantastic This is our first ever induction device and it is so worth it. Granted, we had to buy new pots and pans, but it was well worth it. The speed to boil a pot of water is about a minute and a half (compared to close to 5 minutes with our old cook top). Very happy with the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! We love our new cooktop -- it works great! The only negatives are the temperature is a little hard to control and it makes a weird buzzing noise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 30" Induction Cooktop We purchased this about 6 months ago and cannot say enough good things about this cooktop. Very fast to heat up, surrounding area stays cool and easy to clean. Would purchase another again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Family Had this unit for about three months and love it. Water boils quickly, food cooks fast, and cleans up very nicely. Like ease of use of timer. Would recommend this to friend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super fast and easy to clean! We have been using it for about 2 months now. If you get the right cookware you’ll fall in love in the first use. The reason why I gave it 4 starts is because the layout of the burners is not ideal and sometimes is difficult to cook using all 4 burners depending on the shape of your pots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As expected. I had been doing some cooking on a portable Duxtop counter top induction unit and as a result decided to replace my 28yr old thermal/glass cooktop with an induction unit. My selection of this Fridigaire was based on its high rating in Consumers Report relative to its attractive price. My only hesitation on buying an induction cooktop is the reliability due to all the power electronics. Only time will tell on this. The unit easily dropped in as a direct replacement to my existing 30" cooktop. The only issue is the armored sheath for the power lines was 1/4" larger in diameter than the prior unit, so I had to increase a cutout on one drawer. This unit has a 1/4" step on the edge while my prior unit was flush with a metal rim. This clean glass transition does not catch debris making it easier to clean; not to mention the lack of knobs which also require constant cleaning. The unit fully functions as advertised and it is a big step up from my prior thermal cooktop; better than gas in my opinion. It's 7" cooking "zone" will bring 1 cup of water to boil in 45sec using the "power boil" setting. The power levels are well spaced. The higher power settings are more than adequate. The Duxtop used a single button to raise or lower the power setting... one press increasing or lowering the level by 1 unit. This Fridigaire has a "slider" which is a sequence of "spots" which select the different power levels. I was concerned how I would adapt to this, but it works well. I quickly got used to knowing where to touch the slider for a given setting. The unit is quieter (virtually noiseless) than what I was expecting (e.g. noise from the fan or the induction coils); a pleasant surprise based on my experience with the Duxtop. The only negative (If possible I would give it 4.5 stars) is the unit has an automatic warning system if it senses a "key" pressed or the surface is touched in some odd fashion; or an object is placed down on the surface. This is for safety with children and pets. When this occurs it will beep 5 times and if not rectified, the unit will shut down for a short period. I still can't quite figure out just what sequences of "touching" "what" part of the cooktop makes this kick in, but I set off this warning off whenever I clean it. This occurs even if I lock the cooktop with the lock function. It even occurred one time while I was moving some pans around while cooking. The documentation is very weak on this functionality (maybe I am missing something on this). A separate key to temporarily disable this feature would be a nice addition. The unit meets or exceeds all my expectations and I would make the same purchase again.

Before You Buy

Measure your space

Measure the width, depth & height of opening. For clean access the door should be able to open 90 degrees or more.

Haul-away

Many retailers have haul-away programs if they deliver your new cooktop. Check to see what retailers offer and have a plan when you’ve selected a new cooktop.

Check your doorways

Check the doorways to ensure your cooktop can easily get into your home. Measure from the stops on each side since those are the closest contact points.
