Questions & Reviews

5,000 BTU Window-Mounted Room Air Conditioner is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 195.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact and Easy to Install and Control Bought this unit for my home office, so I can keep it cooler than the rest of the house. Have another, larger Frigidaire in the bedroom which we have been very happy with. This one certainly does the trick, cools the room quickly and keeps a nice steady temperature. Only complaints are that fan noise on High is enough that it's uncomfortable to have a phone conversation, but so far leaving the fan on low has been good enough. Also, energy saver mode is almost useless... it will let the room get much warmer than I like. Good for leaving it over a weekend so your room doesn't climb to 90°, but not useful for every day. Rated 3 out of 5 by from not as cold as manual model I have one manual and one remote control basically same unit, the remote control model is not as cold and after it is turned off you have to reset it because it goes back to energy saver mode. Also it cycles on and off to much and will only run couple seconds and shuts off over and over, and in the little time it comes on could not possibly make a difference in room temp. And beacuase of this it wakes you when sleeping, constantly cycling on and off, i should have just bought another manual model, works much better. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad I live in nevada and the heat wave is crazy right now 100 degrees every day. Usually I have to turn the a.c. down or in fan mode because I freeze. I had someone help me install it because my window is a huge sliding window. The filter is hard to get in and out so don't install too close to wall like I had done. I wish the vents would tilt down it's right over my bed and only tilt up a little and the directional swivels don't direct air enough. Wished I'd gotten the 6000 bcu because it's so hot right now. I have a very small bedroom too. The remote is very handy. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool and efficient After much research on window air conditioners, we decided to buy 2 Frigidaire units - one for the living room and one for the dining room. The installation was the easiest air conditioner installation we've had and to say that we've been happy with both units would be an understatement. The cooling capability is top-notch and the energy efficiency has definitely helped our electric bill. We made a great choice and will definitely buy Frigidaire from now on. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good price, but had to get used to its "features". We liked the price and I was happy about the remote control and energy features. However, the energy saving mode is definitely something you have to get used to. It cycles on every 10 minutes to sample the air. If it doesn't need to go on, it just shuts down for another 10 minutes. I'm not sure why it can't just use an ambient temperature sensor and only go on when it needs to. We may have to go back to straight cooling mode where the fan runs constantly. Also, the water retention feature, where it saves the accumulated condensate water to splash on the evaporator coils to help it cool adds some funky sounds. On really humid days, the accumulated water sloshes around a lot when the fan starts and stops. I'm not sure I'd buy this unit again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for bedroom This unit is perfect to keep a bedroom cool. We stay downstairs where it's cool during the day, but the bedroom gets quite hot. Instead of cooling the whole house we keep just the bedroom cool. One thing to note is that its auto feature cycles the air every few min. If your a light sleeper it may wake you. Otherwise it's nice whitenoise. I also like the remote control. It let's me turn it off in the middle of the night without getting up. One last thing. The displayed temperature does not seem to be the correct temperature of the room. I think our room is too big for it to get the real room temperature. I just set it down a few degrees to compensate. Overall I'm very happy with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slightly Weak and Unresponsive I bought this unit due to the positive reviews found online. However, it's a bit weak and it takes a while for the air to be felt around the room. When I change the temperature setting, the unit does not respond right away. If it's set on "energy savings" and the temperature is 68 and I move it down to 64- the unit will stay "off" for quite some time and only turn on after a while. However, if you give this unit time- it will work properly and turn the room cool. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well - quiet - energy saving I purchased this to replace my old window A/C unit that quit working in my room addition. After researching various units I chose this Frigidaire unit. I like it because it is compact, was easy to install, and is relatively quiet. I also like the energy saving mode because I can leave it on when I'm not there and the fan only comes on once in a while to keep the room from getting too hot. The remote is easy to use and works great from my desk across the room [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
