Questions & Reviews

5,000 BTU Window-Mounted Room Air Conditioner is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 736.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Good I bought this air conditioner about a month ago and am mostly satisfied with it. The summers in SC are very hot and air conditioners are a must! I bought this model because we purchased the same type a few years ago. There are a few differences between the old unit and the new one, and I have to admit, I like some of the features that our original a/c has. For example: the controls, the original has a medium speed which comes in handy, and it has a larger screen-type filter that is easier to access and clean. I really have no complaints about the new a/c unit. It works fine, and hopefully, it will last as long as our first unit has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well I purchased the unit for a 10x12 room and it works great! The other day I noticed a large amount of condensation on the outside of the unit. The last a/c unit (different brand) had a drain hole that allowed water to drain from the a/c. This one does not have a drain hole. I read the operators manual and it states "...after proper installation, condensate should not drain from the overflow drain hole during normal use, correct slope otherwise." I checked and the slope is correct. But, there is not a drain hole on the a/c unit. If there was a drain hole, I assume water would drain from it. Is there supposed to be a drain hole?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Filter problem solved! I wrote recently that I couldn't get the filter back into our a/c as it seemed something was obstructing it. Well, after working with it for some time, I accidently pushed it backwards when it got stuck about a third of the way in, causing the filter to bend into a slight curve (the filter is lightweight and flexible)...then it went right in! Apparently, it has to be in a sort of backward curve to get it to insert smoothly. They should put this bit of info in the owner's manual as it would have saved me a lot of frustration!!!!! It does a good job of cooling, though, and runs well w/o any rattling..... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Engineers Who Actually Install the Product I ordered this air conditioner to save money over using our central air unit. It works as advertised with he electrical consumption of about 6 cents an hour to operate. What most impressed me was the design changes the engineers took to make over traditional air units. The side curtains snap in neatly instead of awkwardly being screwed in with sheet metal screws. The material is more flexible and improved and designed, I think, to last longer. The controls are straight forward and simple. Rather than go to absurd lengths to provide remote control adjustment and digital readouts, the fancy embellishments instead went to quality of performance. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful little guy I told myself I'd buy an in-window unit when the first 80 degree plus day was in the forecast for Seattle. It happened to be Memorial Day this year, so I've had a whole summer to enjoy the benefits. It creates a delightfully cool bedroom (10x12) with the door closed or helps cool all the way out into the living room during really hot days. I just got my first electricity bill since installing it and it is much lower than expected. It really is energy friendly. The only downside is that it didn't fit perfectly as explained in the instructions due to the sill/frame of my window, but with the foam provided in the kit, I was able to seal it up well enough and make it work. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not horrible but not excellent either Disappointed because I now own 2 of these 5,000 BTU Frigidaire air conditioners and I had a 8,000 BTU Haier air conditioner before and it was more powerful, energy efficient, and cold than both of the Frigidaires combined. Also-it had WAY more features-temperature setting, remote control, timer, energy save mode, etc. Only downside was how loud it was but wooow it was strong! If your looking for a cheap A/C that will cool off a small room and not break the bank then this is it, but if your looking for something $30-50 more with way more options then look elsewhere. If you don’t have the extra bucks-it’ll do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lot of cold air for very little money! I bought this unit for my son's bedroom and it is the perfect small size with a lot of power! Quiet and very easy to use. Also, my electric bill went down drastically using this unit and that was a plus!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good basic unit Had it a little over a year, the original use my old house didnt have central HVAC system and I cooled my bed room and it worked great. Now Im in my new house and my central unit is going out and I dont really have the cash for a new system so this one is in the window helping my dying central unit keep the house cool and it works great for that purpose.
