FAQs

  • What is the proper way to clean my air filter?

The air filter should be checked at least once a month to see if cleaning is necessary. Be sure to unplug the unit before cleaning to prevent shock or fire hazards. To clean the filter, open the front panel and remove. The air filter is reusable and may be cleaned using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. After cleaning allow the filter to thoroughly dry before replacing. You may also vacuum the air filter to remove excess dirt and particles.

  • Can my room air conditioner be covered while in use to prevent outdoor debris from getting inside vents?

Proper air flow into the air conditioner is essential for performance and safe operation. Under no circumstances should you block or cover any exterior or interior vents of the unit.

  • How does the power cord work on my air conditioner? When should I test the plug?

For your safety all Frigidaire air conditioners feature a 3-prong grounding plug and current leakage detection device. These enhanced plugs help to detect damages to the power cord and can be tested following a few simple steps. 1. Press the reset button 2. Plug the cord into the power outlet 3. Press the test button, the reset button should pop up 4. Press reset button for use 5. Do not use room air conditioner if above test fails. For more information please consult your use and care manual.

  • What is the additional vent located under my air louvers?

On select models, you may notice a small tab identified with Open / Fresh Air / Closed.

This fresh air vent allows the air conditioner to: 1. Recirculate inside air - Vent Closed 2.  Draw fresh air into the room - Fresh Air  3.  Expel indoor air outside - Vent Open. Note: When in the cool mode fresh air venting or exhaust venting will affect cooling and decrease performance.

  • I have noticed water dripping outside of my room air conditioner, is this normal?

Water dripping outside is a normal function of the room air conditioner, especially during periods of excessive humidity. If condensation need to be directed, window air conditioners have a key hole drain in the bottom of the unit where one could connect a ½” drain hose for safe disposal of excess system water.  Part: EA150D / 5304481680. Never drill holes into the bottom of the room air conditioner to remove water. If water is dripping inside the room during the cooling, this is due to improper installation. Please refer to installation instructions or check with your local installer.

  • I have noticed that my ENERGY STAR air conditioner is frequently in Econ mode?

For all new ENERGY STAR products the EPA has regulated that all ENERGY STAR air conditioners must be factory set to Energy Saver (Econ) mode. If you turn the room air conditioner off in cool mode, and restart the unit it will default back into Energy Saver mode. You may select out of Energy Saver mode by selecting the mode button, however we recommend using the feature to help save energy.

  • What is Econ mode?

Econ mode, or Energy Saver mode, is a setting that works similar to central AC. The room air conditioner will turn off once the set temp is reached; the fan then cycles on (for 20 sec.) every 10 min to sample the air temp. If the room temp is above the set temp, the compressor will turn back on. Since the room air conditioner is not running at all times, this setting will help save energy while ensuring the room temperature stays at the set temperature.

  • What does the Clean Air button do?

When this feature is on, the electronic air purifier is energized to remove pollen and impurities from the air. To cancel this feature, press the Clean Air button.

  • What is a BTU?

It is a professional term rating an air conditioner. BTU stands for British Thermal Unit - the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degrees Fahrenheit. The higher the BTU the larger space the room air conditioner will cool.

  • What size window unit do I need?

The size of the window unit needed will depend on the size of the room you wish to cool. To determine which size you need, measure the width of the room by the length and multiply those numbers together to determine the square footage.

  • What happens if I lose power?

After a power outage, the unit will memorize the last setting and return the unit to the same setting once power is restored.

  • What does Sleep Mode mean?

When this mode is enabled, the selected temperature will increase by 2 °F 30 minutes after the mode is selected.  The temperature will then increase by another 2 °F after an additional 30 minutes.  This new temperature will be maintained for 7 hours before returning to the originally selected temperature.  This ends the “Sleep” mode and the unit will continue to operate as originally programmed.  You may also cancel sleep mode at any time by again pressing the sleep button.

  • Why is my room air conditioner making noise?

Room Air Conditioners, during operation, may make noise.  It is normal to hear ‘high pitch chatter’ a sound of rushing air, gurgle/hiss, pinging or swishing and vibration.  These are all normal.  For more definition of noises, please refer to your product’s Use and Care guide.

  • How do I store my room air conditioner for winter storage?

If you plan to store the air conditioner during the winter, remove it carefully from the window according to the installation instructions.  Cover it with plastic or return it to its original carton.  NOTE:   To prevent rust or electrical connections from being damaged, store air conditioner in an upright position and a dry place.

  • Why is my Filter Reset light on?

This feature is a reminder to clean the Air Filter (refer to Care and Cleaning section of the Use and Care Guide) for more efficient operation.  The LED light will illuminate after 250 hours of operation. After cleaning the filter, plug the unit back into the power source and reset the filter by pressing the ‘Filter Reset’ button and the light will go off.

Reviews

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Came With Design Flaw and Wouldn't Work The unit came in undamaged, but upon installing, the compressor would only run for 2-5 mins and kick off for an extended period of time. This was regardless of mode or temperature settings. I then noticed the condensor fan wasn't spinning at all - upon looking through the top vent slats, I could see the fan rotation was being blocked by one of the hard compressor lines. I was able to use a flathead to pry the line out of the way and it now functions as normal. However, I have no idea if the life of condenser fan motor was damaged by not being able to spin while trying to use the unit. Now that it works, it is very quiet a CD does a great job cooling. I'm leaving a low rating because this is definitely a design flaw and QC issue that should have been caught. I've now seen other reviews explaining the same problem. Update Months later - The remote control is falling apart (the adhesive holding the face/number pad on isn't holding). The unit has also developed a "wooshing noise" that only goes away when you leave the front panel open (filter is clean and there's no obstructions).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from problems I have 2 frigidaire air conditioners - the 6,000 btu is great - the 8,000 has problems. At intervals it is very noisy, when I went to clean the filter, some of the fins were bent. It also does not keep the temp. correctly. I set it at 77 econo and auto fan - did not go on - temp in room was 81, did not go on until I set it on 74.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from After replacement still the same problem! I first bought this unit in July of 2018, then after two months of use this loud inconsistent whisping sound started to come around. After about a week, it was intolerable and I contacted frigidaire. They replaced the unit and I didnt use it until the second half of this summer 2019. After one month of using the replacement unit the exact same thing started happening! It is so loud and inconsistent of a sound, it is unbearable. I have contacted frigidaire again and they will replace it but I have to cut the chord on my current unit before initiating the replacement process which can take up to 10 days. In the middle of summer that is not possible for us. I am seeking a refund but no one seems to be able to answer that for me. I contacted a corporate supervisor based in georgia and she absolutely useless. She outright accused me of returning this unit every season. What would the point of a replacement be if this problem keeps happening! I am astounded at the lack of professionalism and customer satisfaction. I have attached a video with the sound. The sound happens whether the air compressor is on or off. It is impossible to sleep through this! This is the replacement they sent me and still the SAME problem! I WANT A REFUND!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and cools my whole house I bought this air conditioner last August so I’ve been using it a year now. I am surprised by how cold the output air on it is, I’ve done HVAC work and I took the temperature of the output air and it was 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit, very cold but plausible since R410a’s boiling point is -55f. The unit cools my whole 880 sq ft house to 73 even on the hot 95 degree high humidity days. We never get up too 100 up here in NW Wisconsin and it’s rare to go above 90 but it happens a few times a summer and it’s often very humid too. I bought my unit on Amazon’s Warehouse Deals so I got it for a deep discount and am very happy with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool and whooshing I can't stand an air conditioner's drone. I need the cooling but love the quiet so I purchased the Frigidaire Quiet Temp because of it's very good quiet ratings. Yes it is pretty quiet and it cools our room quickly, but similarly to another review, it has an odd on and off whooshing sound which occurs both when the compressor is on or off. It is not constant but it occurs on and off all night which can be annoying. It's just an odd, but fairly quiet inconsistent sound, in addition to the regular compressor and fan sounds that are very quiet. If it didn't have this on and off whooshing sound all night this AC would be a 10+.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE BUZZ!!!! FGRQ0833u1 Something is wrong with the compressor - my friend has one. After a month he got a terrible buzz too! All models FGRQo833u1 are not good, They discontinued it but took our money knowing it's junk!! I tried taping the belt that comes out of back to the side, that worked for a while. Simple fix - but doesn't last. NOT quiet if it buzzes loudly. Cust. service knows this about the buzz/compressor I just talked to them! Made me 2star on revewi.
