Freezers

1. Alarm buzzer sounds (some models).
- Freezer temperature is above 20 degrees F.
Turn Temp-Alarm off until temperature is below 20 degrees F. Be sure freezer is properly leveled, and that door closes freely and gaskets seal properly.

2. Freezer does not run.
- Control knob is in the OFF position.
Set Control knob.
- House fuse blown or circuit breaker tripped.
Check/reset circuit breaker or replace fuse with 15 amp time delay fuse.
- Plug at electrical outlet is disconnected.
Make sure plug is tightly pushed into electrical outlet. Connect power cord retainer.
- Power outage. Check house lights.
Call local electric company.

3. Freezer runs too much or too long.
- Control is set too cold.
Turn the Control knob to a lower number. Allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.
- Door/lid is kept open too long or is opened too frequently.
Warm air enters the freezer whenever the door/lid is opened. Try to open less often.
- Freezer gasket is dirty, worn, cracked or poorly fitted.
Clean or change gasket. Leaks in a gasket will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature.
- Freezer had recently been disconnected for a period of time.
Freezer required 24 hours to cool down completely.
- Freezer is larger and has colder temperatures than the previous one owned.
This is normal. Larger units require longer running time.
- Large amounts of warm or hot food have been stored recently.
Warm food will cause the freezer to run more until the desired temperature is reached.
- Room or outside weather is hot or room temperature is too cold.
It is normal for the freezer to work harder under these conditions.

4. Ice inside freezer.
- Door/lid is kept open too long or is opened too frequently.
Open the door/lid less often.
- Freezer should be defrosted.
Defrost freezer.
- Weather is hot and humid, which increases internal rate of frost build-up.
This is normal.

5. Lid will not close.
- Lid is not conforming to the shape of the unit.
The lid is flexible so that it will conform to the cabinet. If the lid wraps at one corner, raise the lid and close it sharply. The lid should conform to the cabinet.

6. Light bulb is not on.
- Light bulb is burned out.
Replace the old bulb with an appliance bulb of the same wattage.
- No voltage to the freezer (the safety signal light outside the freezer would also be off).

7. Louder sound levels whenever freezer comes on.
- Today's freezers have increased storage capacity and more even temperatures. These require a high speed compressor.
It is normal for sound levels to be higher.

8. Moisture forms on outside of freezer.
- Door/lid is slightly open, causing the cold air from inside to meet warm, moist air from outside.
Close door/lid. Also caused by high humidity.

9. Odor in freezer.
- Certain containers and wrapping papers produce odors.
Use a different container or brand of wrapping paper.
- Foods with strong odors are in the freezer.
Cover the food tightly.
- Interior needs to be cleaned.
Clean interior with sponge, warm water, and baking soda.

10. Popping or cracking sound when motor comes on.
- Metal parts undergo expansion and contraction, as in hot water pipes.
This is normal. Sound will level off or disappear as freezer continues to run.
- Refrigerant (used to cool freezer) is boiling off as it is being circulated.
This is normal.

11. Temperatures are too cold.
- Control is set too cold.
Turn the Control knob to a lower number. Allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.

12. Temperatures are too warm.
- Control is set too warm.
Turn the Control knob to a higher number. Allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.
- Freezer has recently been disconnected for a period of time.
Freezer required 24 hours to cool down completely.
- Large amounts of warm or hot food have been stored recently.
Wait until the freezer has had a chance to reach its selected temperature.
- Lid is kept open too long or is opened too frequently.
Warm air enters the freezer whenever the lid is opened. Try to open lid less often.

13. Vibrating or rattling noise.
- Floor is uneven or weak (freezer rocks on the floor when it is moved slightly).
Be sure floor can adequately support freezer. Replace flooring or use wooden shims under the freezer.
- Freezer is not level (it rocks on the floor when it is moved slightly).
Level freezer by adjusting leveling legs or with wooden shims.
- Freezer is touching the wall.
Re-level the freezer or move freezer slightly.
- Items are sitting on top of the freezer.
Remove them and place them elsewhere.
- Items are vibrating inside of freezer.
It is normal for items to vibrate slightly. Re-level the freezer or move freezer slightly.
