A real review
Ok... I live in a converted basement bachelor pad. It gets unbearably hot in the summer. I had tried a conventional air conditioner, but due to the inability of the basement windows to allow in enough air to keep the AC cool, that was a nono. I started looking for alternatives and came up with the portable ACs as a possible solution. I can tell you that I heard all of the knocks against it and nearly said I would pass, but one day I was in Best Buy and noticed this model, which I had just researched in some magazine. I asked all my routine questions and the guy was ok with his description, but he wasn't convincing me. A stock guy came through and noticed me debating on whether to get it. He walked over and said, "Yeah... this is it. This thing gets so cold, you'll turn it off." I asked him about noise and he walked me over to a different department. He said, "Let me plug it up and you can see for yourself." I had to stop him because the air felt sort of cold. "Shoot, it is on already, isn't it," I said. He looked and said, "You're absolutely correct!" I was hooked. I got it home... set-up was a breeze. You could only hear it if you are sitting by it and even then its not a nuisance. And you want to talk about cold... too often I had to turn it down AND close my bedroom door, because it would get viciously frosted in the apartment. My place has 4 rooms; the kitchen and dining room are open and overlap taken up spaces of 20' x 11' and 26' x 10'. My bedroom is separated by a door and about 30' x 16' and my studio, which can only be entered by going through my bedroom, is 15' x 8'. In every room you feel the AC's impact. The duct system for it was well designed and is easy to install. I really am happy I decided to get this unit and have talked 3 other peope to get the same model.
