Pretty much a bust. Worked for about two months. Than it stopped drawing humidity out of the air. Checked the filter and found a solid block of ice around the coils. Took it outside and defrosted it but it never worked again. It sounds like its working but it doesn't draw any moisture. Bucket is always empty. Didn't have time to wait for a warranty repair in the hotest spring in years. Bought a better unit, a brand with an automatic defrosting feature.

      Works Just Fine
A dehumidifier is not a snazzy, snappy, sexy purchase. You want it to be easy to set up, and go about doing its job without having to bother with it. This unit does all of that. I had it up and running in minutes. I have a hose leading to a drain, so I literally never have to deal with it. And best of all, my finsihed basement doesn't have that damp, musty smell. I would definitely recommend it.

Have owned this dehumidifier for about 10 months. It's now running much more often than it used to, even in a drier season. It's very frustrating that most dehumidifiers are built such that they lose their refrigerant within a year or two. This is the third one I've owned in the last 8 years in a fairly undemanding environment (average humidity in my basement is 55% and I have the unit set to 50%).

I have had this humidifier since the beginning of Spring - my old one stopped working. I have been very satisfied with this one. It is easy to empty and the filter is easy to clean (and lets you know when it is time to clean it). I can have the water run into my sump pump automatically with a hose (which I may do in the future).

Just purchased this to replace an old one. After having it run for 2 hours, it is amazing how much moisture it pulled out of my old basement to get rid of the smells. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't shut off if the humidity level is reached like my old one. I have not had a problem with water getting in the bucket, it is connected to a garden hose to a basement drain and working just fine. It is on wheels, the hose connection is easy for connection. I like the fact it is pretty well enclosed so no dust can get into it easily. I hope it lasts as long as my old one did and that was a few years. I hope the electric bill is better since this is supposed to be an energy saver.

We just purchased this unit and it runs so hot and puts out a large amount of very hot air from the top as if it is a heater. 70 pt dehumidifier
I'm very pleased with this dehumidifier. I had water come into my basement when my sump pump quit on me during our rainy Spring. After contending with that situation my old dehumidifier gave up the ghost that same week (not a good timeto be sure). Researched several units & decided this was the best. After getting this set up, which was a snap, it worked hard the first week because of the dampness down there. I could see it was drying out the cement and pulling a lot of water out of the area. There is only one aside on this that's why the 4 stars instead of 5. I set it up with the hose hookup to the sump hole - the water still fills the bucket & doesn't run out the hose so I still have to check the bucket and empty it. All other features are great and easy to understand in the set up.

      Good unit with flaws
Overall, these units do what they are supposed to do: grab water moisture out of the air and condense it. That they do reasonably well. The issues I have with these units revolve mostly around what the unit does with said condensate. The condensate can either run into a 17 pint reservoir (and hence needs to be emptied multiple times per day) or one can attempt to attach a drain hose. Well, unless you get a free drain hose kit from Frigidaire, expect to experiment with the latter approach. Even reclining the unit would not reliably cause all water to run out via the drain hose - instead, some of the condensate ended up in both the drain hose and the bucket. As soon as the bucket is full, the unit shuts down. I look forward to the drain kits and hope that my drainage issues then come to an end (yes, kits, as I ordered three of them for my in-laws and I don't expect elderly folk to be emptying condensate buckets multiple times per day). Other features in this series cast the unit in a better light: The handle on top and the casters below make repositioning the unit fairly easy. The air filter is reasonably easy to reach and clean (it requires bucket removal first). The humidistat is electronic and shows the ambient humidity in 5-degree RH increments. The blower fan is reasonably quiet yet fairly good at creating circulation. Most of the units arrived without any serious blemishes, only one had a snap-fit pop out during shipping. So I am disappointed that the engineering department at Frigidaire did not catch something as obvious as the drainage issue before the units entered the field. Either the units should include the drain kit in the box or they should be redesigned so they no longer require a special drain kit from the OEM to function flawlessly.

one of the best dehumidifiers on the market
Well-built, compact, and surprisingly quiet. The factory drain modification "kit" seems to be required as I couldn't find a way to make the gravity drain work. The bucket capacity of 17 pints is on the small side for a 70 pint rating, so the gravity drain is a must unless you want to empty the bucket several times a day. The ambient humidity display only displays units in multiples of 5%. Not a big concern, but it might make it easier to understand what the thing is doing if it resolved 1% increments. Auto-restart works after a power failure. Include the gravity drain modification and this dehumidifier is perfect.

      Runs Constantly
My old dehumidifier (purchased in 1993 and still works) would shut off automatically when the room reached the desired humidity level. The fan on this model continues to run even when the humidity level is reached. My old model had the option to run the fan on "constant" or "cycle", which I assumed was standard on dehumidifiers. That is my only complaint about this model. It does do a good job drying my basement.

      Works good........so far
Like another reviewer, this is my 4th Frigidaire since 2008 and the 2nd this year. The 1st unit lasted 2 seasons, the 2nd unit lasted one season, and the 3rd unit lasted 3 months. All 3 units lost refrigerant and the compressor stopped working. Since this is a new model, I am hoping for better quality. I also had the drain hose problem and I solved it by using a "Y" garden hose connector that I had previously purchased when I planted a new lawn and didn't need anymore. I attached the "Y" garden hose connector to the drain fitting on the back of the dehumidifier and pointed one of the outlets down. I connected my black garden hose to the connector that was facing down. The "Y" connector has ball valves so you can turn each outlet on or off. I opened the bottom one, of course, to let the water flow to the drain and i opened the other one so that a vacuum would not develop in the hose. An engineer told me to not use a clear hose, as they tend to gunk up due to light being able to pass through the hose. I used a black garden hose and several times last year I noticed that the bucket on the dehumidifier was full. I checked the end of the hose and found that it was gunked up even though it was black. After cleaning the hose, it again allowed water to pass through. I was leery of installing the rubber plug that Frigidaire is offering to correct the drain hose problem because if the hose gets gunked up and you have the rubber plug installed, where is the water going to go? It will back up into the upper half of the dehumidifier and leak out onto the floor and possible damage the dehumidifier, so I went with the "Y" garden connector as a more confident fix. If the hose gets plugged again, the water will flow harmlessly back into the bucket and it will shut off when full. Hopefully, Frigidaire has fixed the compressor leak problems with this new model. If this unit fails before the 5 year warranty, I will look elsewhere for a dehumidifier. Frigidaire did replace the 2 units that were still under the 12 month warranty, free of charge. They offered me a partial refund on the first unit that failed after the 12 month warranty expired even though the compressor unit has a 5 year warranty which doesn't mean much if Frigidaire refuses to honor it.

Eh, collects water, but won't let it go....
Like other reviewers here and across the internet, I think it's doing a great job collecting the moisture, it just won't drain it. I've been looking all over the internet tonight about this, and it always comes to the same thing; very poor design or perhaps a complete design fail. You shouldn't have to 'mod' a product right out of the box to get it to work as advertised. With as many comments as i've seen about this draining issue, i'm interested to see if Frigidaire proactively addresses this....but i won't hold my breath and I just might be returning this for a different manufacturer. Bottom Line - It works, as long as you don't need the continuous drain option.

Basement was so damp that mold began growing on the furniture - including metal lamps. The basement was cold, but had a heavy, wet feel to it. It also had a musty odor. Bought the unit and followed the 'first use' instructions - in less than 3 days the basement air was DRY! That heavy wet feeling was gone...the odor was far less, as I can now have my basement door open to the upper level. You do have to empty it often and it must give off some heat because the basement is not as cold any as it was before. Now all I have to do is clean up the mold and hope that my new dehumidifier keeps it dry! I recommend this product! Worth the cost.

Works well except for the rear hose drain
This unit sucks water from the air by the gallons. I set it up in my finished basement and right out of the box it worked great. So well, in fact, I needed to empty the large capacity tank too often. So I opened up the back hose valve, connected a short garden hose and pointed it to the floor drain. The unit kept filling up the tank and did not drain out the hose :-(. It appears that the hose drain in the back just works on gravity--there's no pump. So if the floor is not level and/or if the hose is a little narrower than the male connector on the back of the unit (as most are) the water will not drain through the hose valve. The fault is poor product design. To remedy, I bought a right-angle PVC adapter, barb adapter and clear tubing (to visually see whether it was working) from Flex PVC.com. Parts: "508-007 FGH by .75 FPT (female NPT) 90degree", "PPN46 3/4 mpt x 1/2 barb adapter", and "1/2 x 5/8 Clear Tubing BTF". The right angle adapter is large and maintains the 3/4" garden hose opening from end to end. Once assembled and attached I experimented and found the correct position for the dehumidifier which is on a slightly uneven floor. Now the water drains through the hose (which I can watch through the clear hose) and it works as it should. Frigidaire should provide this setup to all users that need to use the hose valve in the back until they fix the design issue. I keep the unit running continuously and it gives off more heat than I would like, heating up the basement which is usually cool in the summer. But it's somewhat unavoidable with this technology so I will take heat over humidity. (Note: Review also posted on amazon.com)
