Room Air Conditioners

1. Can a window air conditioner be installed through a wall?

   Our window air conditioners are designed to perform best when they’re installed in a window. If a wall installation is a better fit for your space, we recommend that you use a dedicated through-the-wall unit to ensure you get the best performance. 
   
   Frigidaire offers a full line of both window and through-the-wall models to meet your air conditioning needs.

2. Where is the cord located on your window air conditioners?

   On all Frigidaire air conditioners, the cord extends from the bottom left side of the unit.

3. How can I tell if my portable air conditioner is Energy Star® qualified?

   At this time, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has not designated Energy Star® minimum qualification standards for any portable air conditioners. 
   
   To compare energy consumption on available models, look at the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) rating – it is published for all models of portable air conditioners. The higher the rating, the less energy the unit will use during normal operation.

4. I have horizontal sliding windows. Can I still use a window air conditioner?

   Yes. Frigidaire offers dedicated models that are designed to be used in slider or casement windows. You can choose from 8000, 10,000 and 12,000 BTU models.

5. Is there a window fill kit for slider air conditioners?

   Yes. All of our window air conditions come with a quick-mount window installation kit, which includes a curtain that will fill in the extra space in the window. :

   • Our slider/casement models have a curtain to fill in the window above the unit.
   • Our traditional models have a curtain to fill in the sides of the window, next to the unit. .

6. What is the temperature range I can set my room air conditioner to?

   Our air conditioners can be set to any temperature between 50˚F and 85˚F.

7. Do I need to change the filter on my air conditioner?

   Frigidaire air conditioners come with a removable and washable filter. If you are using the unit continually, you should remove and wash the filter approximately every 3 months for optimal performance.

8. What size room air conditioner is right for me?

   Air conditioners work by removing both heat and humidity from the air. The proper unit size will remove humidity effectively as it cools.
   
   To help you decide which size is right for you, we recommend that you view our chart on frigidaire.com.
   
   It is important to choose the right size air conditioner, because:

   • A unit that is too small for the area you would like to cool will run continually without cooling effectively.
   • A unit that is too large for the space will cycle on and off frequently, leaving the room feeling damp or clammy

   
   Tip: Using a single unit as a cooling source for multiple rooms will not deliver balanced cooling to every room. The area closest to the unit may be cool, but the room farthest away from the unit will be too warm.

9. Can I buy a room air conditioner that heats the room, too?

   Yes. For year-round use, it is possible to get an air conditioner unit with supplementalheating options. Please ask your retailer for details.
